Should I Text Him First?
How to decide when initiating is healthy, useful and aligned with what you actually want.
Start with the pattern, not one message
Texting is noisy evidence. Work schedules, habits and context affect response time. Look at the pattern across days and weeks: initiation, curiosity, warmth, follow-through and whether conversations move toward real plans.
Use reciprocity as your compass
You do not need to mirror every delay or count messages. A healthier question is whether effort feels reasonably mutual. If you are always reopening the conversation, proposing plans and carrying the emotional load, the imbalance itself is useful information.
Write messages that sound like you
Specific beats strategic. Mention something you genuinely noticed, continue a shared joke, ask a real question, or make a clear invitation. Avoid messages designed mainly to provoke jealousy, fear or urgency.
When you want clarity
If uncertainty persists, directness can save a lot of decoding. State what you enjoy, ask what you need to know, and leave room for an honest answer.
